December 2004 in St. Lucia

St. Lucia's Rodney Bay marina is home to the ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers) and we headed there to meet our daughter Jessica who was coming out to see us.

Jeremy was away in the UK for much of December and most of these photos were taken by Todd Fulks.

The big event for us was a visit from Jessica - she's not a sailing fan. But the big event for Jessica was meeting her boyfriend Marc-André who is. After some days of impatient waiting she was happy to see him sail in safe and sound after an Atlantic crossing with the ARC.
It's Yole Rally time in St. Lucia. These amazingly quick boats are crewed by big teams using lateen rigged sails.
You can see the tension on these guys faces in this great shot by Todd.
When it's time to tack they have to nip sharply over to the other side with their poles. There is no centreboard on these boats so balancing them is a fine art.
Zinganos (our famous rum punch) all round in the cockpit. From left Jamie (sister to Lynn), Todd (Blue Marine), Jenifer (Allways Sunday), Lynn (Blue Marine), Marc-André, Jessica and Leonie.
Jessica, Anna and Leonie switch to pina coladas for the evening.
Jessica soon realised that what her father said is true. Cruising is not all about lazing around in hammocks you know.
A trip to the airport for another flight home and we stop for lunch at Ladera, a lovely restaurant with breathtaking views of the Pitons.
A breathtaking view of the Pitons.
The colours of the rainforest are a last memory of St. Lucia before flying home to cold wet London.
