Trinidad has a big Indian community. Large
numbers of Indians were brought in as indentured labourers after the
abolition of slavery. They now make a significant minority of the population
and wield considerable economic and political power. Divali, the Festival of
Light, takes place each year and Leonie went on a tour to join in the
celebrations while Jeremy was back in the UK. All photos by Todd Fulks.

Jesse James, our
lovely taxi driver who looks after cruisers in Trinidad organises
many trips. For Divali he took over 100 cruisers to his home village
to see the celebrations. |

In the temple
even the Gods are festooned with lights. |

The colours were
magical |

Two young girls
gave a performance of traditional Indian dancing |
 |
They had
wonderful grace and elegance, and had clearly put much practice into
their skill. |
 |
Jesse organised a
feast for the cruising guests - quite a job feeding over 100 people. |
 |
Food was served
on banana leaves - saves on the washing up! |
 |
And washing-up
bowls made handy dishes to serve from. |
 |
The whole village
was lit by thousands of little candles. Each house goes to enormous
trouble to create beautiful displays in their front garden. |
 |
One person had
even created an amazing waterwheel - clearly the village champion. |
