Christmas in the Caribbean

Keeping a pledge made with our friends on Allways Sunday and Blue Marine we met up in St. Anne, Martinique for Christmas and had a lovely time with them and other friends.

Christmas Day on board Blue Marine. Five boatloads in all and each brought a course or something. From left Chris (brought the beer) of Colonel's Lady, Lenny (Windancer) behind him, Jeremy, Sue (Windancer) and Drury (Allways Sunday).
Windancer's guests puzzle out these strange European crackery things which we were amazed to find are little known in the States.
For Boxing Day I suggested a dinghy trip up a nearby river which turned out to be fun. All our Christmas Day gang went plus some other friends I persuaded to join us. We had a lovely picnic under the shade of overhanging trees and later swam in a quiet bay. In the shot are Todd and Lynn from Blue Marine with Zinganeers and Allways Sundayers behind.
The French stage great fireworks and the night before New Year's Eve a waterside spectacle was put on in Fort de France. We were anchored across the bay but moved Zingano over with a bunch of friends for dinner and ringside seats.
Drury and Jennifer having a posing moment (again!) as we pass Allways Sunday (again!) en route to St. Pierre for New Year's Eve.
St. Pierre was the capital of Martinique until destroyed by earthquake in 1910. The capital moved to Fort de France and St. Pierre has languished ever since - a bizarre half-ruined but still living town.

A bunch of ruins tired after a hot walk around town. Drury, Jenifer, Leonie, Jeremy, Annie Oakley, Lynn and Jamie.
For New Year's Eve we played Mexican Train dominoes (even I joined in after a while!). We had a course between each round so ended up with a sumptuous meal of about nine courses.
Blue Marine's dog, Annie Oakely, seemed keen to take part.
And so the sun sets on another great year's cruising....
