Our crusing
friends in Trinidad very generously clubbed together to give us an
overnight stay at the Asa Wright centre. We got pick of the rooms
and chose one of the lovely old airy rooms in the original house. |

Bananaquits live
up to their name with hundreds of them flocking round the plantains
which were put out by the Centre staff. |

The blue-grey
tanagers were particularly pretty. |

Hummingbird
feeders are hung from the veranda, so that you can see them very
close. |

One fellow visitor
noticed an odd shape in the tree right outside his bedroom and found
this snake curled up digesting a meal. It was there for a couple of
days. |

Hibiscus by
torchlight - our guides took us on a night walk. |

I spotted this
hand-sized tarantula and pointed out to our guide that it was on the
inside of the netting protecting a bedroom window. "No worries" said
he. We later learnt that the room was occupied by a wildlife
photographer who considered herself very important and had been
making things difficult. In the middle of the night she discovered
the tarantula and raised a hullabaloo until the staff came. The
warden removed it easily enough, but as he was leaving saw another
sitting on the lamp shade. He said nothing and left.... |
